KSH 40MILLION to be used in beautification of the city ahead of President Obama's visit
The Nairobi
County government will spend approximately Sh40 million to beautify the city
ahead of President Barack Obama’s visit in July.
The fisrt
phase of the project started in May will cover Jomo Kenyatta International
Airport (JKIA), Mombasa Road, Uhuru Highway and Waiyaki Way.
It will also
include a face-lift to areas a radius of five kilometers from the Central
Business District.
A giant
billboard of President Uhuru Kenyatta with Governor Evans Kidero will also be
put up at the JKIA junction as a welcome sign to visitors.
Deputy
Governor Jonathan Mueke on Friday said the project is expected to continue even
after President Obama’s visit.
“For Nairobi
be recognized as one of the most attractive city in the world, the County will
seek partnership from institutions such as Sameer Africa and Panafric to make
Nairobi an attractive city,” he said during an inspection tour of the project.
The County
Government will plant palm trees along the median of the roads towards the
airport to make the place more tropically admirable to the visitors in
country,” he said.
The
beautification project started in May when 1,000 youths drawn from the 17
sub-counties in the city were hired to plant seedlings and unclog drainages.
Areas
targeted in the project are the Central Business District, Limuru Road,
Ngong Road, Forest Road and Muranga Road.
