Nairobi beautification begins ahead of Obama visit (PHOTOS)

The Nairobi County Government has embarked on a massive facelift exercise of the city ahead of US President Barrack Obama’s visit next month.

The county’s committee on Budget and Appropriations has set aside Sh 40 million to beautify the city with about 1000 youths hired for the project.

Renovations have already commenced in various parts of the city, notably the 15km stretch between Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the Central Business District.

Some 2,000 trees will also be planted, alongside flowers and other road maintenance.

“The County Government is working with the National Government and other partners to make Nairobi the most attractive city ahead of an upcoming international meet,” Nairobi Deputy Governor Jonathan Mueke told journalists last week.

Billboards bearing portraits of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero will also be erected.

Obama – whose father was a Kenyan – will make an eight hour visit to Kenya in July, to attend bilateral meetings and the 2015 Global Entrepreneurship Summit.
