Residents of Boncha Constituency, kisii lynched to death a suspected thief on Thursday 17th September after his attempt of escaping failed when his motorbike failed to ignite. Some residents who woke up early in Kerina shoping centre said the man had broken into a shop to steal before escaping.

It was around 4am and we were on our way to the market. We suspected something was wrong because the shop is never open that early. When he realised we had known his intention, he ran out and rushed to his motorbike, which unfortunately failed to start,” one of the residents said.

The got hold of the man and raised alarm and within no time a mob had gathered and the gave the suspected thug a beating before lynching him to death.

Area Assistant Chief Benson Mwalimu confirmed the incident and called upon the public to hand suspected thieves to police rather than meting out mob justice.
He said that the unidentified man’s body was taken to Nyangena Hospital Mortuary.
