TIPS ON HOW TO HAVE AN EASY LIFE IN NAIROBI
Nairobi city
is vastly growing day by day and it is filled with beehive of activities for it
is now a 24 hour economy. The city has gained a large population within a short
time for it is the source of employment to almost 85% of its occupants.
There are
thousands of businesses running in the vicinity due to the recent developments,
high population and also due to the high cost of living. All this has brought
some challenges in the day today lifestyle in Nairobi. But here are some tips
that one can consider in order to have a comfortable life in the city.
1) Avoid rush hours
Due to the
high population growth in Nairobi, there are a lot of public and private
vehicles streaming in the city on daily basis. Big traffic jams are experienced
everyday mostly in the morning and evening as people are committing to and from
their work places. Am sure not everyone likes this experience, of waiting long
hours in the traffic jam.
You can try
to avoid some of this inconveniences caused by the rash hours and try to travel
early before the rash hours start. If you are not working in the CBD you can afford to travel earlier than the rash hours and go
around with the business that you had intended to do and return before the
evening rush hour that starts at 4:00 PM.
2) TRAVEL USING PUBLIC MEANS
Recently
there are many people who own private cars in the city and they afford to drive
daily to the city with their own private means and this has caused a big havoc
in the city Centre due to the availability of many cars streaming in the
streets daily.
Not many
people with private vehicles wish to travel with public means but it is the
best idea and initiative one can take in order to ease traffic in the city.
Then government has tried all means to reduce the traffic around the central
business Centre but the situation seems to be worsening rather than declining.
The Thika road, Northern and southern bypass are currently the biggest
government projects done with an initiative to congest the city but the situation
is still not in a very manageable manner. The Nairobi city council has hiked
the parking fees at high amounts in order to try to discourage most people from
commuting with the private vehicles but many of them can still afford to meet
the cost of everyday parking. Well these funds can be used other ways and
people should use public means to commute to the city Centre.
3) AVOID SMOKING IN NON SMOKING AREAS.
The Nairobi
city council has brought about serious initiatives to deal with smokers who pollute
the environment in town. They have stationed various smoking zones and big
consequences are faced by those people who dare not to follow that.
For smokers
please smoke at the respective smoking zones.
4) AVOID WALKING AROUND ALONE AT NIGHT IN QUIET STREETS.
Due to
the hard economic times and unemployment in the region, some people have
resulted to becoming muggers and they rob people during the night and also day
time. Avoid quiet streets when you are walking around in town.
5) OBEY TRAFFIC RULES.
Those who
travel to town using private means should follow the traffic rules in order to
avoid getting arrested and charged fines for incidences that you could have
avoided. The government has stationed various CCTV cameras around town mostly
at traffic points. This is an initiative to monitor both the security of
Nairobi and to spot the traffic offenders. Do not be part of those who will be
caught up with.
