More than
500 former Garissa University students got the opportunity to move to Moi University
and they have since refused to begin classes claiming to be given back their
belongings from their former school.
They were
later allowed to access their belongings and further complains were, that most
of their valuables were missing. Many complained they could not get their cash,
and electronics.
The truckloads of suitcases and other
personal effects collected from the Garissa institution, which was shut down
after last month’s terrorist attack, arrived at Moi University’s main campus in
Kesses on May 11. Moi University Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of
student affairs, Prof Nathan Ogechi, said classes and the scheduled counselling
sessions could not go on as the students wanted to identify and secure their
belongings first.
