Fracas in Kasarani as matatu operators demonstrate due to poor road conditions

Commuters in Kasarani were on Friday stranded due to a protest by matatu crew complaining of the poor condition of the Mwiki Kasarani road. Commuters had no option but to use boda boda’s to their work destinations or to roysambu where they would get matatus from Thika heading to town.

The demonstrations continued for the better part of the day and some other sections being blocked with stones and burning tires. Matatus were parked on the roadsides and they also threatened boda boda riders who dared pass along where they were.

“We will carry on with the demonstrations until we are assured of plans to repair the road because there have been a lot of empty promises by our leaders,” said one of the protesters.
