Drama as police engage in heavy gunfight with gangsters at donholm Nairobi

A heavy exchange of fire between police and armed gangsters was experienced in Nairobi Donholm estate on Thursday evening. No injuries have been reported as at this update.  Most of the traders around the incident were forced to close their businesses due to their own safety.

It all started after three gangsters were preparing to commit a robbery around Donholm Phase 8 but their attempt was foiled by the police following an early tip off.

The police and gangster confrontation started at the Kayole-Donholm round about after the gangsters declined to stop for a police inspection and speed away. The police initiated a chase on the gangsters for about 500 metres then the gangsters abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot while shooting back at the police.  One gangster managed to escape while the two others hid in a nearby apartment which was later surrounded by the police.
