Ladies Beware of this upskirt and downblouse guys who take photos of your inner wares while you are not looking
Back
in the high-school days boys used mirrors to check girls' under
garments as they placed them under the seats to have a clear glimpse.
Well
today its not only happening in schools but also on the busy streets
and this time in a digital manner. With the availability of smart
phones spreading vastly in the Kenyan market and nowadays every Tom,
Dick and Hurry can afford to acquire one.
There
are some men making use of their front camera by doing something
called upskirting.
A friend of this writer was
recently subjected to this revolting experience. As she was queuing
for a matatu
she felt someone close behind her. What she saw when she quickly turned around startled her. A man was crouching behind her with one of his hands extended toward the bottom of her skirt – which fell just above her knees – and his cell phone was in hand.
The woman yelled and the man ran off and disappeared in the crowd.
According to Wikipedia the practice is called upskirt which is basically taking unauthorized photographs under a woman’s skirts and capturing the image of her crotch area and underwear.
The practice is regarded as a form of sexual fetishism or voyeurism and is similar in nature to downblouse which involves watching female breasts looking down a woman’s dress.
For obvious reasons, the victims of these practices are almost exclusively females, and most pictures are taken in shopping malls, matatus, and restaurants or even on the streets.
That explains the numerous photos you will see on-line that have apparently been uploaded without the subject’s consent.
So ladies next time you see someone encroaching on your space for no apparent reason and he’s holding a smart phone, just move away from him politely.
