Woman Allegedly Feeds Neighbour's Child With Human Flesh

A middle-aged woman in Kisii town escaped death by a whisker on Tuesday, September 22, when residents accused her of feeding her neighbour’s child with human flesh.
The woman who apparently is a witch is said to have taken away the child from their house in the wee hours of the night, bewitched her and fed her with flesh from a corpse, a practice that residents claim is common among witches in the region.

“The child said this is the woman who took her away before dawn with other 30 women, roamed with her, took her to the river and fed her flesh from a corpse,” a witness told K24.

The child is said to have been found dumb and numb and when residents performed rituals on her and restored her voice, she narrated how the accused took her away and all the things she and her colleagues did to her.
This greatly infuriated residents who wanted to lynch the woman by setting her on fire but police officers arrived in time and arrested her.
They blamed the police of protecting suspects who have continued to agonize the community through witchcraft.

“Why is the police protecting witches who have continued to taint the name of Kisiis and bewitching our children?” an angry resident opined.

Kisii region is believed to be one of the places where witchcraft is highly practiced, with previous incidences seeing a number of elderly people lynched to death for allegedly practicing the loathed vice.
In 2009, police had a hard time containing a section of youths that went from village to village killing suspected witches by setting them on fire and destroying property in the name of weeding out witches whom they believe are a reason why the region cannot move forward.
