Woman threatens to kill herself and her toddler in order to warn her husband for his addiction in Gambling
A Chinese
woman balanced on the window ledge of a high-rise building with her
two-year-old daughter threatening to jump unless she was granted a instant
divorce from her husband The woman, who was not named, climbed outside of the
room on the 13th floor of the hotel and was seen with her child perched on a
narrow ledge 60 metres from the ground. Shocked onlookers watched as she
dangled the toddler perilously by one arm over the edge, threatening to kill
both herself and her daughter unless her case was heard immediately. In tears,
she told rescuers that her husband was addicted to gambling and would often
beat her and said she was not prepared to stay with him any longer or leave her
daughter in his care. Rescuers arrived underneath the hotel in Guilin, in south
China's Guangxi region, and set up an inflatable mattress on the ground while
others headed up to the 13th storey to negotiate with the woman. Police called
the woman's husband to the hotel and pleaded for his wife to come back inside
saying they would deal with the matter in court. But the resolute woman would not
budge, and also would not hand over her daughter, unless she was granted a
divorce right there on the edge of the building. Authorities eventually brought
to the scene an official from the civil affairs bureau who had both husband and
wife sign official divorce papers, finally ending the three-hour stand-off.
