KCSE Candidates Forced to Strip Naked, Parents Take Action

Parents of students in Mt Carmel Convent Girls School, Kajiado County, are seeking justice for their children who were expelled for allegedly refusing to strip naked.

The parents urged the Education Ministry, Kenya National Examination Council and Ngong Catholic Archdiocese, to investigate the matter which according to one of the girls, has caused them emotional distress.

The petition stated that the school hired sniffer dogs to help inspect students of drugs, cellphones and other contraband on October 3, but upon failing to obtain any, the administration opted to carry out a physical and random search that required them to undress.

A group of girls refused to be frisked and were expelled four days to the commencement of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.

“What has followed is abuse by male and female teachers, including physical abuse, insults and taunting, and even blackmail. The school has kept threatening the girls that they can influence to have their exams results cancelled,” the petition reads.

The girls who claim to have been commuting during the entire examination period, said that they have suffered ridicule, insults and discrimination.

However, the school Principal, Sister Tracy Decruze, failed to confirm or deny the allegations levelled against the school.
