SAD!! 9 dead in a midmorning accident along Eldoret-Malaba road.

It was a saddening incident that occurred during the mid-morning hours after a matatu collided head on with a truck near Kipkaren River shoping centre on the Eldoret – Malaba highway. Police said that the matatu driver was speeding when he hit a bump and lost control of the vehicle and collided with the oncoming truck. The driver and the conductor are among those who died on the spot. The Nissan matatu had carried a capacity of 12 passengers.

“The matatu driver hit a bump and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle bounced and collided with the lorry. The matatu driver was speeding and thus the grisly incident,” said the police officer.

A witness report seemed to differ from the police statement since he claimed that the Nissan was fleeing from a police vehicle that seemed to have been trailing it from behind.

The injured were taken to Webuye District Hospital and Moi Teaching and referral Hospital in Eldoret.
