Slum projects reduce crime rate .
Crime
rate in Kisumu has reduced due to Youth empowerment projects in slums. County
commander Nelson Njiri said in the last month that the town had improved on
security and few crimes were reported.
The
county hosted the second Devolution Conference last month and it was attended
by president Uhuru Kenyatta . First lady Margaret Kenyatta also visited Kisumu
to hand over the Beyond Zero clinic. On Wednesday at the Central police station
the County Commander told the press that the slum projects have created jobs to
the idle youth and that had positively affected the security of the region.
“The project has so far created
jobs for around 4, 000 youth and improved sanitation in Nyalenda and Obunga
slums,” Njiri said.
He
said availability of jobs directly affects the county’s security.
Health
facilities, 23 toilets and a police post will be built in Nyalenda during the
slum upgrade project.
Streetlights
will be erected and roads constructed.
