Boy born with three penises undergoes surgery
A Indian boy born with three penises has undergone a life-changing operation to correct the incredibly rare condition.
The two-year-old kid, who remains unidentified, has suffered from diphallia, is a rare abnormality in which a male infant is born with two penises. Moreover, the child had a third undeveloped penis and was born without an anus.
As a solution, doctors made an incision
in his stomach to let his feces pass out through a tube. And only two
years later an anus was created through the boy’s rectum so he could
defecate normally.
Besides, last month the boy
eventually underwent a six-hour operation to remove the
unnecessary appendages. Giving the details of the operation, Dr
Vishesh Dixit, paediatric surgeon, said:
“There was a huge
soft boney mass and tissue to which the penises were attached. However, the
anus was absent. The two functional penises were fused into one by
wrapping a mass of skin around them. Further, an anal path was created
through the boy’s rectum to facilitate the passage of excreta.”
Doctors said the boy will be able to have normal sexual
life and his fertility will not be affected when he grows up.Diphallia is
incredibly rare, affecting only one in every five to six million
births. Only a hundred or so cases have been recorded in the medical
literature since 1609.
