Here's why Nairobi City has been ranked top 10 in the world as being one of the most hardworking city
Nairobi has been featured in a list of the top 10 hardest working cities worldwide for 2015.
Nairobi placed seventh in the
rankings. The primary factor determining what the hardest working cities in the
world are is the number of hours worked every year (and how many hours per
week that translates to). The number of paid days of leave is also included in
the list.
The report by CNN Money
indicates that Nairobi residents work an average of 2,184 hours every year and
receive an average of 22 paid days of leave.
So who works harder than that? Among
the cities that work harder are Mumbai, Mexico City and New Delhi. Although
Nairobi did place seventh it does have the distinction of being the hardest
working city in Africa, with no other metropolises from the continent even
cracking the top 10.
The hardest working city crown
belongs to Hong Kong, where people work an average of 2,606 hours per year (or
more than 50 hours per week). They also only get 17 days of paid leave every
year.
The report
failed to take into account the hours of spent every year by Nairobi commuters
in traffic to and from work. Nairobi is rapidly becoming one of the major
economic hubs in Africa, with the reputation of being the “Silicon Savannah”
being cemented globally.
