PHOTOS: Condom like female panty hits Ugandan Market

World over, the female condom has experienced the least uptake with the the gospel of safe sex being heavily biased to the male flock. But there is a new strategy in Ugandan to shift the narrative.
Proponents of a revolutionary female condom are pushing for the recognition by Uganda’s health authorities of a new breed of the female condom that they hope will promote its use by ladies.

Like the usual female thong underwear, the condom is made of nylon or cotton but with a slit adhesive pocket containing one condom for a one time use.
Whats more? the revolutionary female condom is pre-lubricated, odourless and the lady can wear and walk with it in anticipation of sexual intercourse.
One pair of the underwear plus two condoms costs $5 or KSh 530 and in Uganda, it will set one back USh 18,400.
The panty-like condom has a stronger material and allows for change of positions during intercourse unlike the current female condom on market,” explains a proponent of the Female condom as quoted by the Daily Monitor.
A refill of three condoms will cost around $ 3.75 or KSh 398 and USh 13,800.
It is hoped that once approved, the new female condom will promote safe sex as women will be in control as opposed to expecting men to take the initiative.
Unlike the current condoms on the market for ladies, the panty-like condom is said to be 10 times thinner thus more comfortable inside the woman with less pressure.
In Uganda, the current female condom cost USh 1,500 and that is considered as a hindrance to its uptake. It remains to be seen if the latest condom will navigate the price barrier.
Studies have shown that Uganda has one of the highest HIV prevalence in the East Africa region and perhaps should the government adopt this new female condom,, it would help arrest the spread.
