What you should Know about the Kenya's presidential Jet
A lot has been said about the Airforce
1 from United States. But I have heard no one thinking of their own local
presidential Jet. Here is what you should Know about Kenya’s Presidential Jet.
Hambee One, as it is refereed to, is
the preferred jet for use by Kenya’s heads of state and VVIP’s.
While not much about the plane is
public, here are some of the basic facts about the plane.
1. I was acquired by Kenya through the
Airforce in 1995 from Dutch manufacturer Fokker.
2. It is a Fokker 70 ER
jet with 2 engines.
3. It has only been used by three
presidents; Daniel Moi, Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta.
4. The plane ideally has a
capacity of 70 passengers and crew, but Kenya wanted it modified
to carry only 26.
5.While much of its cabin was modified
to accommodate more fuel space, its not exactly known for how long it can
remain airborne unlike Airforce one that can remain airborne indefinitely. 6. It has a crew
of two pilots.
7. Kenya Airforce technical, cabin
crew- that handle the plane- are to this day trained in Netherlands.
8. The Fokker 70 ER production line
was shut in 1997 after the company went bankrupt.
