Safaricom's 'THE BIG BOX' digital Tv decoder is missing on the shelves. Here is why.
It has been a while after Safaricom launched ‘THE BIG BOX’
digital TV decoders. The decoders were available only at their retail outlets
but of late they have been missing on their shelves. They have come to realize that
there is a defect on the WI-FI hotspot generated by the decoder as the signal
is not strong enough to allow indoor internet access as it is not penetrating
through the walls.
“We
suspended the sale of the decoders a couple of weeks ago. We are currently
doing software upgrade. The decoders had issues but the biggest one was on
Wi-Fi which was not going through the walls,” said Mr Collymore in an interview
with Business Daily.
Bob Collymore further added that the 1500 customers who had
already bought the decoders will receive free software upgrades. He also
revealed that the decoders will be back in the market by end of September but
did not state whether there will be a price review.
