Ex-Nairobi governor Evans Kidero's son charged with selling sub-standard fuel.

Getting in and out of police cells and courts seem to have become an exchange programme in the family of ex-Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero. Just a day after Kidero pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to defraud charges at the Ethics and anti-Corruption (EACC) court and handed a KSh 2 million cash bail, on Thursday, August 9, his son Ronald Odhiambo was arrested and subsequently charged with trading in adulterated fuel.

Showbiz entertainment understands Ronald who was arrested and booked at Central Police Station for allegedly selling contaminated fuel at Shell Petrol station in Ridgeways was charged with storing petroleum products which did not meet Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) threshold. "On Friday, August 3, at Ridgeways Shell petrol station along Kiambu Road within Nairobi county, jointly with others not before the court were found to have stored petroleum products namely; diesel and motor vehicle gasoline," read part of the charge sheet. He was accused of storing the fuel which did not meet required standards in two tanks of 14,000 and 28,000 litres.

Central Police station boss Robinson Thuku had said the ex-governr's son would be charged with malicious damage to property. "He was arrested following complaints from motorists that the fuel they had purchased from the petrol station was contaminated and had spoiled their automobiles," Thuku said. Appearing in Milimani Law Courts on Friday, August 10, Odhiambo denied the charges and was freed after paying a cash bail of KSh 100, 000. In what would be called a bad coincidence for the Kideros, Odhiambo spent Thursday night at Central Police Station as his father spent a second night in police custody after his lawyers failed to secure his release on time. Kidero senior faced counts of abuse of office and swindling of public funds and despite being granted a bail as requested, he could not beat the close of day deadline and weathered the cold in the cells for the second night.
